Saturday Spotlight - Black Fingernailed Reviews

Today, I have with me a fun teen blogger whose blog has really taken off into an awesome YA review blog since she started it.

Name: Khadija
Nickname and/or blog name: Black Fingernailed Reviews
Blog URL: www.blackfingernailedreviews.blogspot.com

Tell me a bit about yourself.
Well I'm fifteen years old, I think pink is a horrendous and nauseating color, barbie dolls creep me out, I'm partially insane, and I'm an aspiring author. Currently I'm an 'online student' which means that I'm home schooled through my computer. I'm addicted to Korean-Dramas and Anime. I have music on almost all the time, even when I'm reading and I listen to pretty much everything...well besides country and 'music' by Disney 'actors'. Right now I don't have any plans for my writing but you can check out some of my poetry on inkpop: http://inkpop.com/profile/me/ I'll also be uploading a new story sometime this month on Inkpop called Fallen Complex. Oh and I hate citrus fruits :P

When and why did you start your blog?
I started blogging in July of 2010 because I love writing and reading and I wanted to have an active role in helping to support authors. Because I wanted to share my opinions and talk to people who love to read and write like I do. At the end of 2010 I took a break from blogging for about three months, and I've been back since December.

What is your blog all about? Any cool features you want to share?
My blog is all about books, music, movies and randomness. Currently I have two weekly features. Every Friday I have 'Today's Answer' which is a post where I feature my favorite book and song of the week. Fairly new to my blog is 'Debut Author Incites' which I do once a week every Wednesday. Basically it's an interview with a 2011 debut author. It's just my way of helping to support some pretty awesome new YA authors.

What are some of your favorite genres and/or books currently?
Well YA of course! I've been really obsessed with Contemporary Fiction lately though. I'm not sure about other people but I read just about everything, and I find that (like food) I read a certain kind of genre for a while and obsess over it and then move on to another. Not saying that I don't still read from the genre I was previously obsessed with. Some of my favorite books right now are:

Fall for Anything by Courtney Summers
Other Words for Love by Lorainne Zago Rosenthal
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Hold Still by Nina LaCour
Willow by Julia Hoban

How do you find out about the books you read?
Well from other blogs, and from e-updates I get from publisher sites. I find a lot of my books on goodreads and from the recommendation of friends, authors, and fellow bloggers.

Any tips or advice for those starting or thinking about starting a blog?
The main thing to consider when starting a blog is if you actually have the time to consistently update the content on your blog. Because if you don't have the time to put into your blog it might be lacking and you might call it quits after a while. Another thing is blogger identity, I know a lot of bloggers struggle with this. So when blogging just be sure to be yourself. It'll likely come through in what you write if your being fake or trying to hard. Don't try to do what every other blog out there is doing. The way to gain readers is to be unique, and in order to be unique you have to be yourself. :)

Thank you Khadija for that great advice and sharing more about yourself and your blog with us! :)
