Fade to Blue

Fade to Blue
by Sean Beaudoin

From the back of the book: Sophie Blue started wearing a black skirt and Midnight Noir lipstick on her last birthday. It was also the day her father disappeared. Or spontaneously combusted. Which is sort of bad timing, since a Popsicle truck with tinted windows has started circling the house. Kenny Fade is a basketball god. His sneakers cost more than his Jeep. He's the guy all the ladies (and their mommas) want. Bad. Sophie Blue and Kenny Fade don't have a thing in common. Aside from being reasonably sure they're losing their minds. Acclaimed author Sean Beaudoin's wildly innovative novel combines uproarious humor with enough plot twists to fill a tube sock. Part thriller, part darkly comic philosophical discussion, and accompanied by a comic book interstitial, Fade to Blue is a whip-smart romp that keeps readers guessing until the last paragraph.

This book really spun my mind around. It was a little more... sci-fi ... than what I thought it would be. I love the hilarious Ice Cream truck that keeps appearing, almost hitting Sophie from time to time. I love the comic in the middle and the way everything just makes you go "Huh?".

I had to take a step back and really look at this book and realized, that was a really entertaining read. Fade to Blue makes you think about what's going on and the way it spins things around your head.

I can't really explain what it is, but I loved the book. It had a creepy tinge to it at times, but other than that it was seriously entertaining.

5/5 Roses

This ARC copy is in for the August Comments Contest. :)

  2. The cover alone made my mind spin; comic or novel, I first wondered. I would have checked it out regardless.

But the fact that you say it's more sci-fi than you thought..I'm more interested. It seems different and fun. Creepy, dizzily thought-provoking, oddly entertaining--sounds good. As if I'll like it just because.

    Thanks for the review

  3. Mmmmm ice cream. For some odd reason, this makes me think of Donnie Darko, when he keeps seeing that rabbit. And speaking of rabbits, I really want to see Harvey!

Anyways, your reviews always make me want to add more books to the TBR, plus you always review books with such attractive covers. So let me say, stop that. My TBR is big enough to crush me, should I pile all of the books in piles and should they tip over. JK. <3

  5. The "official" description didn't intrigue me but yours did. I'm now adding it to my TBR list.

  9. Oh, it's sci-fi? I hadn't realized that. I do like sci-fi though, so it shouldn't be a problem. Fade to Blue sounds really interesting- fun and quirky.

  11. Everytime I see the cover and the title I keep thinking this is based on a comic that came out years ago of the same name. Its NOT of course, but the title keeps tricking me XD

  12. I thought the cover was really interesting, and extremely different from the typical YA books where there is a girl with no face featured. Glad you enjoyed it

  19. I saw this at the store the other day and I really wanted to buy it but I couldn't. I'm not allowed to buy books for a while because I have no money and too many books as it is. =]
