Benny & Shrimp

Benny & Shrimp
by Katarina Mazetti

From amazon.com:

Why is it so impossible to get a relationship to work between two mature single people, driven by enormous longing and loudly ticking biological clocks?

In alternate chapters, Benny and "Shrimp" tell the story of a love that started by mistake in a village cemetery, a love that should not really be as complicated as it seems. She is a childless young widow with a sharp intellect and a home so tidy that even her jam jars are in alphabetical order. He is a gentle, overworked milk farmer, who fears becoming the village's Old Bachelor. The attraction between them is powerful. But how will she learn to accept that he falls asleep at the opera and has a house full of his mother's embroidered wall hangings, and how could he ever feel at home in her minimalist apartment, bare as a dentist's waiting room?

Set against a charming Swedish backdrop, Benny & Shrimp is a quirky, humorous tale, beautifully told, in which Katarina Mazetti breathes new life into the age-old conundrum that is love...

I must admit that I really enjoyed this book. One of my latest "adult" reads and I really found myself interested in the strange characters that are Benny and Shrimp. It helps that Shrimp is a librarian, which I can obviously relate to.

The novel ends up being quite engrossing as the relationship progresses and then the books ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. I really am dying to know what will happen next. I don't want to ruin anything, so I won't say what it's about.

So, it gets:

5/5 Roses

  5. This sounds cute. I will have to put it on my wishlist. It sounds like one of those books that I can talk my mom into buying thinking that it will be for her and then when we get home I can steal it. =]

    Aren't I a great daughter? =P

  18. I always seem to have trouble getting into 'adult' books that are about love. I think it's because I still don't view myself as an actual adult. I do read tons of 'adult' books, but they never seem to be of the love story variety. Maybe I'll check this out to see if that's changed.
