2010 Reading From My Shelf Project

With the new year coming up, I've been finding myself pulled towards all of these great challenges and projects. This one, hosted by Bilbliophile By the Sea is great because it's going to force me to get through my TBR pile and get them out of my apartment. I'm going to try to hold off buying a new bookshelf for our den if possible and get these books out of here. So, I'm aiming for... 100 books by the end of 2010!

Here are the basic rules posted:

  • grab the button
  • decide how many books you want to read from your shelves (minimum of 20 - no maximum)
  • find a new home for the books once you read them
  • post the titles and the authors of books you've read and passed on
  • project runs from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010
  • crossover challenge books are allowed
I'll be updating this post with reviews as I go along and probably add something about it in the sidebar.

  2. Ooh, love the new layout! I'm going to do the 100+ in 2010 challenge. It's very similar to this one, only I don't have to part with my beloved, little library! XD
Sounds great, though, for people with too many books (did I really just say "too many books"?!)

  3. Oh, yeah! That reminds me: There's a library in VA in desperate need of books! It's for the kids, and the lady who's staring the whole thing was paying for it all out of her own money! The Story Siren has a post on how you can help by donating books.
Reader Girl Reviews has also brought to light a need for YA books for kids that have aged out of the foster care system and are now homeless and in need of something to lift their spirits. She wants to collect as many books as possible for the Home Base Youth Center, which is an outreach program that tries to help homeless people aged 21 and younger.
Just thought since you'll be downsizing your library you'd like to know about a couple good places to send them to. :)

  4. I know that I *need* to get rid of more books, but I just can't commit to doing so. I do need to find a TBR challenge for next year, though.

  7. This challenge sounds like a good idea. I'm trying to limit my number of challenges for this year so whenever I see a good one I don't just sign up straight away I stop and think about it.

  12. Good luck. I think the hardest part is parting with the books when you are finished.

  17. I'd love to do this challenge just because it would give me more motivation to read what I already have, but I don't think I'm willing to part with my books. I only have one bookshelf full of books and then a few 1 cube shelf thing, so I think I can hold off on parting with them...at least for a while and a bunch of books later.

  19. ^Oops^

I'm going to try to work through some of mine this coming year, too. I posted a list of (almost) all of the books I own and need to read (the endless tbr) -- and I have bought more since posting, with plans to buy MORE. I am hopeless.

  20. This looks like a great challenge!

  21. Whoa 100 books. GOOD LUCK!!! By the time you're finished you'll have another 100 sitting there to be read due to so many more brilliant books are being released next year LOL.

  22. I like to do this with some of my books, but I'll be honest - some of them I can't bare to give away. Then I usually end up buying paperback versions for gifts of those books.
