Sea Glass

Sea Glass
by Maria V. Snyder

Opal discovers that her making of glass messengers is not the only skill she has magic-wise. The one she discovers is much more potent and raises the question to the Council about how dangerous she just could be. Add in her new love interest Ulrik, suddenly becoming a bit strange and soon finding out he has switched bodies with Devlan thanks to blood magic - the man who tortured her.

Only Devlan claims to be different and keeps popping up, trying to help Opal. Ulrik, on the other hand, seems magic-thirsty and cruel when Opal finally tracks him down. The problem is, no one will believe her story. Add in Kade, Opal's real apple of her eye and you've got some serious love interest.

There's a lot of political intrigue in this book as well, adding in the factor of who will convince Opal to sell her products through them and monopolize on the glass messengers.

I kept putting this book down, knowing that the third isn't due out until 2011. *sigh* More than a year!!! Opal gets a little more jaded in this book. I'm starting to like Devlan.. I think Kade may have some serious competition in the future. :)

If you haven't, you guys need to read all of Maria V. Snyder's books. They are amazing.

5/5 Roses

  5. Oh I'm so happy to hear you like these! I was hooked on her Poison Study series (although the third wasn't my favorite) and I've been meaning to read these books about Opal but haven't gotten around to it :/

  6. I agree. Maria V. Snyder's books are wonderful. I loved the Study series and I have the first book of this one but have been holding off until I can get Sea Glass so I can read them back to back. Thanks for your opinion.

  7. My book club has HUGE discussion about Kade and Devlen. We are split pretty evenly on the issue. When we had dinner with Maria, the debate blew up, and everyone was talking over each other and getting loud. It was hilarious, and Maria just sat back and took it all in with this surprised smile on her face. You gotta love something that inspires that much passion.

  11. I love that cover.
I find that I'm hesitant to pick up books that are part of a series now. I want a good singleton book every once in awhile. But this one does sound interesting.

  12. I loved Storm Glass and have been wanting to read this one. I might wait though if the next one is not out until 2011. I have her Study series books so I might dig into those first. I'm curious what is going to happen with the Kade/Devlen situation.

  13. I am in the process of listen to the audio version of this and I am liking Devlen a bit too. I think that the next book will probably find him even more prominent because I just got to the part where it talks about why Open and Kade shouldn't be together. Love all the intrigue.
