I listened to the audio version of this book and was glad I did. The narrator did a great job of changing voices from one girl to the next and I felt like I saw more into the book by listening.
Okay, admission - I thought this would be a chick-lit novel about boy-crazy girls and their fun in the traveling pants - but I was WAY off. This novel deals with so much more - dealing with family problems, terminal illnesses, overcoming fears and more. I loved how different each girl was and how well you as the reader came to know them.
I also love the set-up - four girls whose mothers were all pregnant at the same time - so they all have birthday around each other. I think this is a great book for any girl and with four main characters you can easily relate to at least one of them (if not all). I felt like I knew these girls personally after listening to this novel and can't wait for the next one.

Oh, yeah. It's such an ADORABLE series. I loved the second one, but the third wasn't so good... I'm going to the fourth now. It was the first ever book series I read in my life... I mean, I read it when I was ten!

ReplyDeleteThis is a very popular book with students and while I have seen the movie, I have yet to read the book. However, after finishing My Name is Memory and finding out that Brashares is writing a book about the girls 10 years later I think I will be reading all the books before the new one comes out. Love Brashare.
