The Double Blog Dare Tour

I am pleased to be apart of a blog tour promoting two books in a graphic novel series called Alison Dare through Tundra Books. If you know me at all, you know that I love my graphic novels and jump at any chance to read them.

First off, a little about the books:

Alison Dare, Little Miss Adventures by J. Torres and J. Bone

Alison Dare, The Heart of the Maiden by J. Torres and J. Bone

Summary (via Tundra Books):

Alison Dare: Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft in fabulous, graphic adventures. Alison Dare is not your typical twelve-year-old. She's the daughter of an archaeologist/adventurer and the masked hero known as the Blue Scarab. To top it off, she's also the niece of an international super-spy; it's no surprise that a craving for danger is in her blood! Unfortunately, her parents have locked her away at the prestigious St. Joan's Academy for Girls, hoping that this would lead to a more "normal" life for their daughter.

But despite all the strict rules at the school, Alison and her best pals - Wendy and Dot - somehow manage to find themselves involved in adventures that rival those of Alison's globetrotting, planet-saving relatives. Whether it's magic genies, super-powered bank robbers, or a dastardly baron bent on world domination, Alison Dare delivers the best thrills since Indiana Jones and more action than Lara Croft!

My thoughts:
I really dug these graphic novels. Alison is the daughter of a superhero and an archeologist and definitely is not beyond getting into trouble with her own adventures. I love the style of these books, along with the characters and the constantly moving plot. They're the type of graphic novels I want in my elementary school library and they're definitely making it on the list for next year. I think it offers a lot to kids who like superheros and those who like real life stories. It's a great blend of genres, which is something we need more of in this world. I believe that both boys and girls will love these graphic novels and I look forward to reading more about Alison and her adventures.

Along with reading the books, there's a fun contest going on for a prize pack of the Alison books. Check out the full details over on Tundra's blog.

Basically, you print out and cut out a picture of Alison, take a fun picture and add a caption. Here's mine:

Obviously, door #1 was NOT a good choice.

Check out more fun pictures and thoughts on this series throughout the rest of the tour:

  1. I don't read graphic novels but I used to read comics when I was a kid. I think that anything that gets kids to read is good.

  2. I love comics and the only graphic I ever read was Twilight Vol.1...This one sounds cool ;p

  3. Thanks for the great review and for being part of the blog tour!

  4. I love the comparison to Indian Jones meets Laura Croft. I will definitely check these out.

  5. I need to get these for my daughter. I bet she'd love them.

  6. This looks great, I always love books with kick butt girl heroes.

  7. The Alison Dare books look really cool. I love how the characters are drawn.

  8. I've never heard of this series but it sounds like they are very fun to read.

  9. I haven't read many graphic novels but when I see a review I want to read them. Alison Dare sounds like a friend I'd want.

  10. Cool to see graphic novels that can appeal to girls that still contain the adventure and fun of the others.

  11. Cute! It somewhat reminds me of a 39 Clues for girls.

  12. Wonder if my school's library has Allison Dare books????? Will have to check, or even better hope I win a set to donate to the library!

Leave some love!
