Wayfarer

Author: R.J. Anderson
Publication Date: June 22, 2010
Genre: YA Fantasy
Copy provided by: Traveling ARC Tours
Summary (via Goodreads):

The faeries of the Oak are dying, and it’s up to a lone faery named Linden to find a way to restore their magic. Linden travels bravely into dangerous new territory, where she enlists the help of an unlikely friend—a human named Timothy. Soon they discover something much worse than the Oakenfolk’s loss of magic: a potent evil that threatens the fate of all faeries. In a fevered, desperate chase across the country, Timothy and Linden risk their lives to seek an ancient power before it’s too late to save everyone they love.

Why I read this: I love fairies and I really enjoyed the first book in this series.

Plot: Linden hopes to find other faeries to help Oakenfolk so they don't fade out of existence. A human named Timothy is staying with her former faery mother and when he gets fed up he takes off. Linden decides to tag along and see if he can help her find more fairies where he is going. But when they do find a few, Linden finds out that not all faeries are good.

Definitely a great plot that kept moving and changing. I also enjoyed the history exposed to how the faeries of the Oak become how they are in the book.

Characters: I just love Linden. She's a little naive but at the same time knows how to look out for her self. I really just love all of the characters - even the bad ones. They are written so well with their own flaws and strengths and I just thought they were perfectly done.

Relatability: I love faeries and I love faerie stories. Also, Timothy is very angsty in the book, which I can reflect on from my teenage years. :)

Cover Commentary: Looooveee it. :)

Rating: 5/5 Roses

  1. Great review. I like the cover, it is simple and really pretty. I like the summary but I haven't read the first book so I'm going to have to put them both on my list.

  5. This sounds like a good book. The girl on the cover reminds me of Natalie Dormer, the actress who played Anne Boleyn on The Tudors. Will add to my to read pile!

  10. I loved Knife and am happy to see the sequel is good as well. I was a little disappointed when I heard it was going to be from Linden's pov, though.

  13. Oh man...I have this books sitting on the table next to me. It's a tour book and even though I read the first one this one has been giving me problems...might pass it along without reading it :( Glad you like it though - maybe I'll give it another shot!

  14. I wasn't too crazy about the first book. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

  15. Sounds interesting but I've to admit that I can be very skeptical when it comes to faeries. I don't know why but several fae books I read before this totally fail to grab my interest. I guess I'll need to read something that really good to change my opinion on this faery world. Great review though and I'd definitely have to go and see info on the first book of the series.
