Summary (via Goodreads):In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in Linger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past...and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack. And Isabel, who already lost her brother to the wolves...and is nonetheless drawn to Cole. At turns harrowing and euphoric, Linger is a spellbinding love story that explores both sides of love--the light and the dark, the warm and the cold--in a way you will never forget.
Why I read this: I really enjoyed Shiver and I was happy to get my hands on an ARC of this for a short while - long enough to read it! :)
Plot: I'm not going to reveal much (promise), but I was surprised to see two more points of view written into the story. Isabel is the sister of the boy who turned wolf and knows about the world surrounding the wolves. Cole, is a new werewolf who can relate to Isabel in a way that I can't quite describe. Is this a budding romance or just a way to distract Isabel from all the sorrow she has had to deal with in the past year. And then Sam and Grace are doing well, only Grace keeps getting sick and she doesn't want to worry anyone - as per usual - and let's just say that things get a little scary at times.
I have to admit, it was hard to get into the book at first, but by the last 100 pages I was fully engaged and loving the story line. Definitely a series I will own and cherish.
Characters: It was hard to like Isabel and Cole, both of them being sort of unfriendly characters. As a girl, Cole was appealing because he was so much the bad boy of the book. Isabel gets less annoying as the book goes on and we start to see a little more into her personality and past all the issues she has.
Sam and Grace are themselves - they just fit so well and it's not at all that on and off annoying romance that you get annoyed with in this genre. It's refreshing and more mature than their ages call for.
Relatability: If you've fallen in love or dealt with difficult parents, you can relate to this book. If not, you've at least read something similar or know someone in these types of situations. Definitely a great young adult read.
Cover Commentary: I just love it. It's so different and it's nice to have a theme carried throughout the books cover-wise.
Rating: 5/5 Roses
