Wildthorn

Author: Jane Eagland
Publication Date: September 6, 2010
Genre: YA Historical Fiction
Copy provided by: Book it Forward Tours
Summary (via Goodreads):

Seventeen-year-old Louisa Cosgrove longs to break free from her respectable life as a Victorian doctor's daughter. But her dreams become a nightmare when Louisa is sent to Wildthorn Hall: labeled a lunatic, deprived of her liberty and even her real name. As she unravels the betrayals that led to her incarceration, she realizes there are many kinds of prison. She must be honest with herself - and others - in order to be set free. And love may be the key...

Why I read this: It looked like an intriguing plot for a YA Historical Fiction novel.

Plot: Louisa finds herself at an institution for the insane. She's a woman of class who has no idea why she has been sent to Wildthorn Hall - under a different name no less. The book spends some time flashing back to the past events of Louisa's life and what had led her to where she is now. It's a mystery and romance and a fascinating novel.

Characters: I wasn't quite sure what to expect of Louisa as I was unsure if she was truly crazy or not. The flashbacks really give you a glimpse into her character. I also wasn't quite aware that this book would have a GLBT theme to it - which was lovely and such a beautiful relationship arises from the novel.

Relatability: Genre-wise, I'm used to the time period, which helped me solve the mystery before it was truly revealed.

Cover Commentary: Absolutely lovely.

Rating: 5/5 Roses
