The Secret Society of the Pink Crystal Ball (Review + Giveaway)

Author: Risa Green
Publication Date: September 14, 2010
Genre: YA Contemporary Realistic Fiction
Copy provided by: Publisher
Summary (via Goodreads):

In a world where nothing is certain, a little magic couldn't hurt...right?

When Erin Channing's favorite aunt dies, Erin is bequeathed a pink crystal ball and a set of weird instructions. Granted, Aunt Kiki (aka Aunt Kooky) always lived "outside the box." But now Erin and her two best friends are convinced that the pink crystal ball holds the key to their future-or at least the key to getting dates...

Consider Your Fate to Be Sealed . . .

Why I read this: I was totally hooked by the title and cover - hoping for a chick lit with a slightly magical plot and I was not disappointed.

Plot: Erin is a smart girl, but she can't figure out how to convince her teacher to let her go on a trip to Italy except to make her life less boring. But when her aunt suddenly dies, she's left a gift that changes her life - a pink crystal ball, one that is more than it seems. With her two best friends, Erin feels compelled to discover the secret behind the ball and her aunt's sudden death.

I have to say I loved the overall plot, the added romance and the consistent interweaving side plots that really took the reader deep into the book and wanting more. Definitely a great book for light reading and one that went by so quickly that I'm hoping for a continuation novel.

Characters: I really connected with Erin as a character, being a bit of a brain during my high school years, yet trying to not be so "dull". Her two best friends were diverse and hilarious and I loved how they complemented each others personality. And the love interest.. well I wish we had been able to get to know him a bit better, but you can't have everything you want I suppose.

Relatability: I think any girl could relate to Erin or her best friends. There was a lot of high school experiences I could relate to.

Cover Commentary: I love it. Screams Chick-Lit! :)

Rating: 4/5 Roses
