Review: Paranormalcy

Author: Kiersten White
Publication Date: August 31, 2010
Genre: YA Paranormal Fantasy
Copy provided by: Myself - bought
Summary (via Goodreads):

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.

But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

Why I read this: I couldn't resist this cover, first off all. Then, I heard Kiersten was coming to town for a signing, so I had to buy it and then read it. :)

Plot: Imagine working as a bad and tag government group as a teen - only your supposed to take in other paranormals. This is what Evie has to deal with. There some love/hate relationships going on in this book and tons of action. I was intrigued by all the twists and turns that took place in this book and definitely am looking forward to more!

Characters: Evie has some interesting catch phrases that cracked me up. I couldn't quite understand the tension between her and Reth - the elf that seems smitten with her - but there seems to be quite a lengthy history between them. I'm sad one of my favorite characters died. I won't say who, but it made me sad.

Relatability: Readers who like action-packed paranormal YA will enjoy this novel.

Cover Commentary: So beautiful. I love the colors and the model on it.

Rating: 5/5 Roses

  1. I know, I was a little sad about the death too - but at the same time I appreciated that the author added some darkness and depth to it, and wasn't afraid to have that along with the lighter, fluffier side to things. I want to know more about the history between Evie and Reth (well, and just more about Reth generally - loved his character!) and can't wait for Supernaturally!

  2. I am pretty sure I know who you are talking about. I was extremely sad, too, when I read it. I did love this book, though!

  8. I thought this was hands down the most fun paranormal YA of the year...and was very sad it didn't get any love from the Cybils Awards. Oh well.

  9. Just read this one recently too. I thought the death premature too and would have liked to see more from that character. But other than that, it was a pleasant, fairly light-hearted read.
