Description: (from Goodreads)In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

April's Thoughts: I think I'm still trying to process my thoughts on this one as I'm writing this because I'm having kind of a hard time. Not because I didn't enjoy it. I did enjoy it. It is hard to explain because it didn't wow me but it also didn't really disappoint either.

Clara has to go on a journey that ultimately affects both her human and angel side. Although when she starts she thought it was all about her angel side. Her mom hasn't told her everything about being an angel. Her mom says it is for her protection so like most teenagers she has mixed feelings about that. She can see her moms side of it but she is getting more information, that she feels she should be getting from her mom, from someone that she just met.

We get a little glimpse at the evil side of the angels. I would have liked to have seen more from this. But, I understand why we only got a glimpse. The main storyline was for Clara to learn her purpose and to do fulfill it.

I did like the way that Clara and Tucker interact. They had a good banter between them that you can get pulled into.

I also like the different ways that angels are described. From the way they use light is like their glory to connect to God. I also like the different shades of color for their wings. It was a way they could tell kind of how full fledged of an angel someone was.

In the next book I'm hoping that we learn a little about her mom's purpose. Clara tries several times to get her mom to talk about it but she won't. For me if something is mentioned more than twice I start to think it is important some how so hopefully we learn more sometime.

I also look forward to see what else Clara learns about her Angel side. She found someone outside her family to finally be able to talk to, which I think is good for anyone in her situation.

If you like reading about Angels or have thought about reading about Angels then I would recommend Unearthly.

  1. I agree! While this book was very entertaining to read, there was just something...missing. That element to click the whole book together.

But it was definitely worth reading :)

  4. The unlikely romance sounds nice, but I'm not sure how I feel about the whole angel thing.
