Dewey's Readathon

I'm awake! I meant to get up right when the readathon began, but alas, it did not happen. So here I am!

What will I be reading today?

Here's a list:

Aya by Marguerite Abouet
Fables by Bill Willingham (as many volumes as I can get in)
The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger
Through Her Eyes by Jennifer Archer
Rage by Jackie Kessler
Enclave by Ann Aguire
Stones for my Father by Trilby Kent

The theme is catching up. Most of those are review books, some are for Book Battle, and Fables is for a post I need to write up this weekend. :)

I'll be updating on this post as the day goes on. Hoping to put in a good 15 or so hours of reading. :)

So, hour 1:

1)Where are you reading from today?

Willowbrook, IL, USA

2)Three random facts about me…

My favorite coffee drink is a non-fat latte, nothing else added. My favorite cereal is Lucky Charms. And, my favorite board game is Carcassonne.

3)How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

7

4)Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?

Hoping to read about 15 hours.

5)If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?

Don't let the mini-challenges take you too long. Or use an audiobook when you do them.

Wow! I can't believe it's 7 pm and at the halfway mark of the readathon. I've been pretty bad these past few hours about reading. I did listen to an audiobook while I messed around with house stuff.

Here's the
Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now? Through Her Eyes by Jennifer Archer and Revenge of the Witch by Joseph Delaney (audio)
2. How many books have you read so far? 3
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? All three of them - Rage, Enclave and Stones for my Father along with some more Fables graphic novels.
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? Nope, for once. Although it helped that my hubby had plans with his friends.
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? I did laundry, but listened to an audiobook when I folded, I was bad and bought Carcassone for Xbox, so I listened to more audiobook while playing that for a while.
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? How fast it's going by.
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? I'd hate to say this, but less challenges? Or maybe quicker ones? Ones you can just post a quick comment answer to would save time.
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? Probably nothing. This is the best I've done in one so far.
9. Are you getting tired yet? A little but I haven't had much caffeine today.
10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? Read SHORT books. :) That's what is helping me.

--Last Update--

So I went to bed around hour 22 - about 4 in the morning for me. I think total reading time was about 10-12 hours. I goofed off a lot.

I completed:

Aya by Marguerite Abouet
Fables by Bill Willingham (as many volumes as I can get in)
The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger
Through Her Eyes by Jennifer Archer
finished the last half of my last disc of my audiobook Heist Society by Ally Carter
Listened to one full disc (about an hour) of Revenge of the Witch by Joseph DeLaney

I think I did pretty good. I had discovered this boardgame I love - Carcassone was available on Xbox Live, so I kept sneaking off to play a game in between reading times.

Final survey!

1. Which hour was most daunting for you? My last complete hour - 21.
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? Read short graphic novels or middle grade reads. I really enjoyed Aya, Fables, and The Strange Case of Origami Yoda. Through Her Eyes wasn't bad, I just felt daunted by the length.
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? I still think shorter, comment only mini-challenges would get us reading more and online less.
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? Love the different hosts, I think all that went smoothly.
5. How many books did you read? 4.
6. What were the names of the books you read? Aya by Marguerite Abouet
Fables by Bill Willingham (as many volumes as I can get in)
The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger
Through Her Eyes by Jennifer Archer
7. Which book did you enjoy most? Aya by Marguerite Abouet
8. Which did you enjoy least? Through Her Eyes was good, I just felt like it took forever to read.
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders? NA
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time? I definitely will participate, one of these days I'll do a mini-challenge or host or cheerlead or something.
