Eyes Like Stars

Eyes Like Stars
by Lisa Mantchev

Summary:
Bertie lives at the Theatre Illuminata, but is not a player. The theatre is a place of magic and each player has his own place in The Book - an ancient book of all the scripts that keep players at the Theatre. When Bertie finds out she may have to leave the Theatre, she is torn and does all that she can to stay. In the process, things start to change and the Theatre may be in ruin. Will Bertie be able to keep it together and save her home?

Review:
This book was pure magic. The way the Theatre worked and the strange players that lived in there with Bertie were so unique and mystical. There are two main love interests for Bertie - that of Nate, the chivalrous pirate and Ariel - the charming player who is more arrogant and annoying at times to Bertie than charming.

The other characters are just as memorable - Ophelia from Shakespeare's Hamlet and the different fairies that are rarely seen from Bertie's side. The plot itself is fantastic. I mean the underlying plot is that Bertie is trying to figure out how she came to the theatre - all the while she has to find a way to become an essential part of the theatre in order to stay. Add in some serious complications with defiant Players and some romance and well - it truly is a magical book.

My only disappointment was at the end - that it ended before my personal favorite character was saved. Good thing the next book will be coming out soon!

5/5 Roses

  2. Ditto! *read Emily's comment* I'm curious about Ophelia's character. I really liked her when I read about her in Hamlet. :)
