Summary:
Lily is starting at a boarding school in Chicago. The boarding school is full of rich kids, and the only girl she seems to connect with is Scout - a girl who acts strange frequently, which only makes Lily curious as to what she is doing sneaking out late at night. So, Lily follows her one night, only to be chased down by some monster.. in flip-flops no less.

Curious as to what is really going on and who Scout really is, Lily makes it her business to find out just what is going on underneath St. Sophie's at night. Little does she know, it involves her parents, the school and some powers that are out of this world.

Review:
The first thing I must say about this novel is that I love how it's set in Chicago - a city I've grown up near and spent some decent time in. Also, the paranormal aspect is fantastic. This first book in a series really leaves you with enough to want more and with so many questions as to what will happen next.

The characters are fantastic too. I instantly fell in love with Scout - sort of the outcast of rich kids (even though she is one of them) and quite the quirky character. Lily is more of a normal girl, she could fit in with the popular rich girls, but she's more interested in the mysteries surrounding the school and her roommate. The choice isn't rocket-science - choose shopping day and night with the rich girls - or go fight monsters with the weird girl... well, for us bookish daydreamer sorts I guess the choice is obvious! I can't wait to see more of who Lily will become and what secrets her parents are hiding from her.

There's a slight bit of crushing - not romance, just crushing - but I'm hopeful for some blossoming romance in the coming books. And the monsters.. oh love the big bads. Definitely can't wait for some more suspense-ful chase and fight scenes!
