Saturday Spotlight - Shut Up! I'm Reading.

Today, I have with me a blogger whose blog name is what I tell my husband all the time.. haha. Well, at least that's what I WANT to tell him. Jessica's blog is awesome stuff, so check her out...

Name: Jessica (Or Jess or Jessie or J-Dawg, I'm not picky since my mom calls me just about everything.((Except J-Dawg.)
Nickname and/or blog name: Jessica Secret or Pinkhair on Twitter and Shelfari
Blog URL: http://shutupimreading.blogspot.com/

Tell me a bit about yourself.
I like making lists so:
I'm 13.
I have a passion for reading.
I think whiny protagonists can ruin a book.
I love shopping for books at Goodwill.
I am most certainly NOT a leprechaun, nor do I have any pots of gold on hand.
I like to be funny.

When and why did you start your blog?
I started it in mid-June. I started a blog because I just felt like it, basically. I had been blogging about my daily adventures for a little over a year, and had been reading The Story Siren for a VERY long time. (Like, before blogger had a "Followers" widget. That's right. I'm old school.) I'd written a few reviews for a local homeschooling newspaper, so I knew I could write the reviews. I had briefly considered it a few times, but after I had talked to a few girls on Shelfari about book-blogging, I just decided that it was time. My reasoning is just about everyone's: I wanted to share my opinions of books with everyone who cared to read it.

What is your blog all about? Any cool features you want to share?
My blog almost always focuses on young adult. Mostly fantasy, paranormal, sci-fi...you get the idea. I do a semi-annual thing called "Judging A Book By It's Cover" where it's exactly what it sounds like; I judge book covers. I also have a feature called "Enjoy The Apple" where, again, it's exactly what it sounds like; I post a picture of an apple and you enjoy it...kidding. Serious now, promise. I've actually just started to get some author interviews, and I try to have a good amount of contests.

What are some of your favorite genres and/or books currently?
I've been into paranormal a lot ever since I read Twilight over a year ago. (Stop rolling your eyes, itI had read occasionally before Twilight, but I never knew that there were books like that! It was what got me into reading. Since then, I've discovered these favorites (In no order): The Hunger Games Trilogy, Wake and Fade, The Dark Divine, Hush, Hush, The Mortal Instruments series, Shiver, and The Vampire Diaries.

How do you find out about the books you read?
Through Shelfari (an amazing website, in case you couldn't tell from the several times that I've mentioned it) and other book blogs; I follow well over 400.

Any tips or advice for those starting or thinking about starting a blog?
Read, write reviews, have contests, and try and make your blog stand out from the crowd! And then find other bloggers who do the same thing because there are some amazingly nice book bloggers out there!

Contest Alert!
Jessica is having a 200 follower contest which will end on February 15, 2010. Check it out! Includes some cool books - such as Girl in the Arena, Faery Rebels, and a few more.

Are you a new blogger too? Or just getting back into the swing of blogging? Do you want to be featured on my blog? Shoot me an email at dragonzgoil (at) gmail (dot) com.
