Sunday Spotlight - Rather Be Reading

Today I have with me a new blogger who loves reading so much her blog is titled Rather Be Reading. Check Rhia out below!

Name: Rhia Raye
Nickname and/or blog name: Rather Be Reading
Blog URL: rhiareads.blogspot.com

Tell me a bit about yourself.

I am a 17, almost 18, year old girl who lives down south in GA, with aspirations of world domination through writing. Okay, not really world domination. I’ve loved reading ever my since my mom bought Harry Potter to read, because of the controversy. This also sparked my desire to become a published author. I’ve never looked back.

When and why did you start your blog?

I don’t really remember the exact when, because one day I started it, posted one review, and never really went back… so late last year I really got it into it. I really started it on a whimsy, but I keep it up for the fun of, and for being able to keep in touch with other readers, and also the authors. Having a blog gives shy people like me a great excuse to contact authors. I’m not as shy about it anymore, though.

What is your blog all about? Any cool features you want to share?

My blog is mainly about YA fantasy, because that’s what I’ve been into lately, but really it could change any time. My eye is starting to turn toward some more adult epic fantasies, and I really love historical fiction, especially ‘sequels’ to classics. Pretty much anything I read, I’ll probably review.

As for features, there isn’t much, my blog is kind of simple, I guess. I do try to have a monthly feature each month spotlighting an author, book, series, what have you that I think people should be excited about. I’ve been slipping on that, but I’m definitely going to have one for February!

What are some of your favorite genres and/or books currently?

I love fantasy! Anything fantasy, really. (Though the less vomit inducing romance, the better.) I love books that incorporate classic literature, mythology etc. into the story. I’m totally in love Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev, and one of the reasons is that many of the characters in her book are characters from plays. Fairy tales and fairy tale retellings are also some of my favorite things.

How do you find out about the books you read?

Usually, the Internet these days. I follow all sorts of authors and publishers, to stay in the loop, and I’m also alert for contests I might want to enter. Occasionally, however, when I get some time to relax in the bookstore, I might pick up something random. That used to be how I always did. Go to Borders, browse around, pick a book that looked good (maybe two if I had cash and was currently on dad’s good side…J) and go home and starting in my special reading chair.

Any tips or advice for those starting or thinking about starting a blog?

Well, I wouldn’t call myself the perfect person to ask that, but all I can say is just do it! Do it for you, and nobody else. Only about 3 people watch my blog right now (my mom, my best friend, and his mom.) but I’m not giving in! Because one day it’ll be AT LEAST 5, and that’s more than I had yesterday. Constant vigilance!

Thank you Rhia for stopping by today! Check out her blog guys, it's looking really good! :)
