What I love: Music!

Okay, so someone asked me what kind of music I liked and there's really only one way to show you guys how crazy my music ranges. That is by the awesomeness that is contained below. I have a lot of favorite songs that are in my general genre of music listening (aka rock) and then a lot that are way out there. So, to get started, let's start with a song I love, but the video is totally messed up...

(All links lead to YouTube)

Wrong by Depeche Mode

And here are some of the songs I search out a ton on a daily basis for my listening pleasure:

I Get Off by Halestorm
Crawl by Breaking Benjamin
I'm So Sick by Flyleaf
Monster by Skillet
Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold
The Good Life by Three Days Grace
I Hate You by Sick Puppies
Bury Me Alive by We are the Fallen
No More Sorrow by Linkin Park
Your Betrayal by Bullet for My Valentine

Okay, I know.. all of those sound like really angsty angry songs.. but they are all great.. I swear! Um yeah.. so here's the happy, pop-y stuff I dance around the apartment to:

I Kissed A Girl
by Katy Perry
Just Dance by Lady Gaga
Hey Mama by Black-Eyed Peas
Tik Tok by Kesha
Right Round by Flo Rida

And here's some classics that I just love.. across all genres:

Killing Me Softly by The Fugees
Minnie the Moocher by Cab Calloway
Sweet Home Chicago by The Blues Brothers
Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen
Four Seasons (Winter) by Vivaldi

Yeah.. I know.. big gap. I used to be the classics girl in middle and high school - I listened to only classical music more or less and read only classic novels. Seriously.. I must have repressed some inner angst from those years. :)

Well here's an unknown fact for you - my whole family is musically talented. I still sort of play the piano - which is tricky since I don't own one currently.. my father was my high school band and choir director. So there's the influence - he also plays in a blues band and him and my mom both perform in Big Band and Jazz performances often.

  3. Nice list! I too have eclectic musical tastes - I can enjoy just about any music except heavy metal. I've even co-authored a number of musicals :P

Do you still listen to classical? I enjoy the classical radio station in my area, but am not knowledgeable about composers/styles. I still apprciate how it can sweep me away.

  9. I actually haven't heard of a few of those songs before. Thanks for sharing, I'll be adding a few of them to my ipod.

  10. You certainly like a lot of different types of music. That is so cool you play piano. I love the winter part of four seasons, I also like the autumn one. I love rock and heavy metal and classical music and then every now again I love to jump around to bouncy pop music. Great post!

  11. WOW! You listen to FABULOUS music - seriously! Rock on the bands like Breaking Benjamin (LOVE diary of jane), Skillet (OMG - HERO!), Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine!

I really recommend you give the band "Ill Nino" a try! Songs like "Liar", "What Comes Around", and "I am Loco" are simply awesome and slot right in with what you've listed ;)

    Cheers!

  12. Had to laugh when I saw Minnie the Moocher, as that is my ring tone on my cell. I am pretty much a straight jazz lover myself.

  15. I'm very behind on popular music. Probably comes from listening to classical music in the car while I drive (helps me get less road rage :)

  19. When I was growing up everyone thought I was nuts cause my music taste was so eclectic, but now that I am grown up (sort of) and when I see blog posts like yours I see that either once you get older (or now that downloading songs is less expensive and you no longer need to comit to an album to get a song) everyone's music taste is more eclectic.

  20. My musical taste is kind of wide range too, maybe not as wide as yours. Even language. English Japanese Korean German Spanish, very few Mandarin Cantonese Malay and Thai. That's all for now I guess.
