Tell me a bit about yourself.
I'm Milka, 19 year old high school student from Finland; this fall I am going to start the final year of my high school. I am doing this international diploma called IB diploma; I love it since I can study in English. I was an exchange student at Virginia, USA, on 2007-2008 and I loved it there; one day I really want to go back. I am not a really social person and it takes time for me to get to know people. I like just hang around just by myself and read books and watch movies. I love going to theatre and I actually study it as one of my subjects at school; I am going to direct Oscar Wilde's 'An Ideal Husband' which was our pick for the school play next year.
When and why did you start your blog?
I started blogging because of this JALS (Jane Austen Ladies Society) reading challenge. I somehow wanted to manage my reviews and get them into a one place. I blogged for couple of months but then stopped it because of my tight schedule in school etc. I started blogging again about a year ago and now, during the past couple of months, I've really tried to dedicate some time for my blog.
What is your blog all about? Any cool features you want to share?
I post reviews of the books I read; some of them I get for review, some are ones that I have bought and some I get from the library. I take part on several weekly memes such as In my Mailbox, Waiting on Wednesday and Book Blogger Hop. My own feature, fictional lover of the week, introduces weekly one of the fictional lovers I have on the list of my sidebar; I normally introduce the fictional character itself and then the person behind that fictional character (actor etc.). I am also planning of having this new feature in my blog concerned with books and movies, but I am not going to say more about it yet.
What are some of your favorite genres and/or books currently?
Recently I've been reading a lot of YA novels (the influence for reading a lot of YA blogs). From time to time I read some chick lit along with some historical fiction. I love Jane Austen, so I am always looking for something related to her to read. Some great books I have read this year, so far, are Purge by Finnish author Sofi Oksanen, Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers, All That Mullarkey by Sue Moorcroft,Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway and The Extraordinary Secrets of April, May and June by Robin Benway.
How do you find out about the books you read?
From other book blogs and from Goodreads.
Any tips or advice for those starting or thinking about starting a blog?
Just do it! When I started I was so depressed about the fact that no one was actually following me and it almost made me stop. Eventually you will get some followers, so don't worry about it. And if you don't; just blog for yourself, it is fun!
