Saturday Spotlight - Holes In My Brain

Today I have with me a teen blogger from Canada! I absolutely love the name of her blog - it always cracks me up!

Name: Audrey (AyC)
Nickname and/or blog name: holes In My brain
Blog URL: http://holes-in-my-brain.blogspot.com/

Tell me a bit about yourself.
I'm Audrey, I'm Canadian, and I love books! I'm 16 and I own three racer-polar bears and travel between my two beautifully decorated igloos. I'm just kiddin' =D but I actually am 16 and generally love reading in my free time, along with visiting *cough*stalking*cough* other book blogs, and cheering for my favourite hockey team. I play basketball during the school year, and I love my friends just a bit more than I love books. I spell things with "ou" as opposed to just "o" like favourite, neighbour, and saviour. Also, I love parentheses (which you will be able to tell later on) 'cause I just have those random interjections when I think.

When and why did you start your blog?
I started after a couple months of having no idea what a book blog is. I wanted to write reviews for books, because it was originally reviews from other blogs that inspired me to pick up and try different YA books. I just kind of wanted to do the same for others.

I started blogging in June 2009 (and if you see my earlier posts, I was so confuzzled by what the heck I should be doing). It's just snowballed from there, and now it is a borderline obsession...

What is your blog all about? Any cool features you want to share?
My blog is centered around books, but I also (very occasionally) review movies and post some of my favourite songs. I love participating in a meme that allows me to share quotes (Friday's Finest), and I try (unsuccessfully) to run my own meme, called Wednesday's 3 Couples, where I share some YA couples I adore!

Just a couple weeks ago, I did a Movie Week called "movies In My brain" where I posted a bunch of movie-related stuff.. a nice break from books I think.

What are some of your favorite genres and/or books currently?
I am, of course, impartial to YA lit. My favourite genres are (and probably in this order): contemporary/realistic fiction, dystopian/futuristic, paranormal, and fantasy. Of course, I usually love it if the books I read contain some action and adventure, or just spectacular writing!

My favourite books currently include: On the Jellicoe Road and The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta, and the Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness!

How do you find out about the books you read?
From all these awesome book blogs, of course! I will admit, I buy into hype quite a bit, so if a book is circulating the blogosphere, I usually try and get my hands on it! Other times, I read books connected to my favourite authors.

Any tips or advice for those starting or thinking about starting a blog?
Go for it, but make sure it stays fun! Don't stress yourself out trying to get a huge following, just write what you want to write, and eventually the readers will come! Of course, this is biased for me because it probably took me like 4 months to get my first follower, so feel free to ignore whatever advice I give. I do stick by the "keep it fun" motto though.

Thank you Audrey for that great advice and letting us into your book blogger brain for a bit! :)
