2011 Comment Challenge Wrap-Up

So, one of my goals this year was to comment more on blogs. I do check my reader regularly, I just don't always get around to commenting on their actual blog. So, thank you to MotherReader for hosting this awesome challenge. And look at that awesome button, which contains the headers from all 131 of the participating blogs.

The goal was to comment on five blogs every day for 21 days, giving you a day off if need be. So the goal was 100 comments.

How did I do?
  • I had a total of 118 comments during this time period!
  • I didn't comment every day, but made up for it on other days.
  • I've been making sure to go through my reader and then actually click on a few and comment.
  • I'm feeling a bit better about blogging now that I'm leaving more and more comments. Hopefully I can keep this up all year!
This runs in January every year, so I hope you will join in next time if you didn't this time around. If you did participate, how did you do?

Introducing the 2011 Bloody Jack Reading Challenge

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

<center><a href="http://www.bookworminginthe21stcentury.com/2011/01/introducing-2011-bloody-jack-reading.html"><img src="http://i54.tinypic.com/2ptaqfa.jpg"/></a></center>

So, I've always wanted to host a challenge... but all my ideas were done already. And then I had a brilliant idea. I need to catch up on a favorite series of mine and what better way than a challenge. I absolutely love L.A. Meyer's Bloody Jack series, which has 8 books published in it right now (and a 9th coming out in October). They're pretty thick, so I figure a full year challenge can easily be accomplished.

So, I hope some of you will join me. I have a few different levels you can look at:

Crow's nest - This is for those who aren't sure about the series. Read at least one of the novels in the series.
Batten down the hatches - For those of us that have started the series, but not finished it, either pick up where you left off and finish the series.
Dead men tell no tales - Read the whole series. Whether it's a re-read, first time, or even more than your second time.

Rules:
-Anyone can join.
-Please post somewhere on your blog (if you have one) that you're participating. (You can steal that button up there too!)
-You can join at anytime. The challenge runs from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011 (even though this is late.. if you started one, it counts!)

Giveaway!
Oh, and as some incentive. . . I'll be giving away a book from the series, whichever one you need, want, etc. to one random participant. I'll be pulling a name from the Linky below to win on February 1st. So, if you don't have a blog, link up to your facebook, goodreads, shelfari, twitter or some sort of account so I can get a hold of you. :)

I will have a linky up for reviews as well, wherever you review your books, and may also do a random giveaway at the end of the year from those. :)

I will be taking on the Dead men tell no tales level as I feel it's time for a re-read and I have yet to finish the last two books in the series. I may try out some of the audiobooks since I hear they are fantastically narrated.

Here is the list of books in order:

Bloody Jack: Being an Account... Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary "Jacky" Faber, Ship's Boy (Bloody Jack, #1)

Curse of the Blue Tattoo: Bein... Curse of the Blue Tattoo: Being an Account of the Misadventures of Jacky Faber, Midshipman and Fine Lady (Bloody Jack, #2)

The Wake of the Lorelei Lee: B... The Wake of the Lorelei Lee: Being an Account of the Adventures of Jacky Faber, on her Way to Botany Bay (Bloody Jack, #8)

And in October this year, we will have a 9th Bloody Jack book - The Mark of the Golden Dragon: Being an Account of the Continuing Adventures of Jacky Faber, Wending Her Way Back from Botany Bay. (I'm so excited!!!)

2011 Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge (K)

Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge

I'm excited to join this LAST (I swear) reading challenge, hosted by The Book Vixen.

Details:

* Runs January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011 (books read prior to 1/1/11 do not count towards the challenge).
* The goal is to outdo yourself by reading more books in 2011 than you did in 2010. See the different levels below and pick the one that works best for you. Nothing is set in stone; you can change levels at any time during the challenge.
* Books can be any format (bound, eBook, audio).
* Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are fine.
* You can list your books in advance or list them as you read them. It is not required that you review the books you read for this challenge but feel free to do so.
* Post this reading challenge on your blog so you can keep a list of the books you’ve read for this challenge. Please include a link back to this post so readers can join the challenge too.
* You do not have to be a book blogger to participate. You can keep tabs on books you’ve read for this challenge on Goodreads or LibraryThing if you’d like (maybe make a shelf for “Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge”). If you are not on either of those sites then you can list the books you read for this challenge in the comments on my wrap-up post, which will be up at the end of 2011.

2011 Off the Shelf Reading Challenge (K)

This Challenge is PERFECT for me. I have about 400 books I own right now that I have not read.. yes, I know... bad me. Click here to learn more about the challenge.

Here's what this challenge is:

"This challenge is to read those books you own copies of, but have never got around to reading. If you don't have many that you own, but have a massive TBR shelf you're welcome to read those ones as long as you don't add new ones. You don't need to actually get rid of your books after you've read them, this is just to read them. "

How To Participate

  1. Decide which challenge level you'll be doing (further below) - do not include books that you buy from the start of this challenge.
  2. Grab the code for the badge down below and post it on a side bar or in a signature (if you want to participate, but aren't blogging, on a social network or forum - Submission For Non Bloggers).
  3. Create your own post to let all your readers know you’re taking part in the challenge and at what level (if you're really proficient you can list your books!). Make sure to link back to this page with either one of the buttons or a text link..
  4. Use the link form below to enter into the challenge by sharing your challenge post url and your name (either your name, blog name, or both). Please don't use the comment form to participate, only to comment on the challenge or something else..
  5. Submit your reviews (if you choose to review them, but that is optional) on the review page.
  6. When you’ve completed you’re challenge let us know on the completion post. If you're using a tag or category I recommend sharing the link back to that so everyone can find them

My level:

Hoarder – Choose 76-125 books to read

Seems like a lot, but it will make a great dent in my collection!
